A Contemporary Church – Rich in Tradition
Since the mid 1950's a group of Methodists in Jessamine county have met regularly for worship, some would say even earlier. The Methodist played a major role in the formation of Wilmore. They still do. They also play a major role in the spiritual formation of communities all around the world.
The ministry of the Wilmore United Methodist Church is a world wide ministry. Each Sunday faithful worshipers from all corners of the country and the far reaches of the world gather. The Children and Youth ministries touch the lives of the Christian leaders who will shape the church of Kentucky and beyond for years to come. Each Sunday more present and future United Methodist pastors participate in worship than in, perhaps, any other congregation in the country. What an exciting place to be!
The rich historical tradition of the Wilmore United Methodist Church goes deep into the Jessamine county soil and deep into the Wesleyan heritage of our nation. The tradition sitting in the pews each Sunday spreads broadly across many states and nations. The contemporary potential of this church spreads broadly in its scope and needs to go deep into our identity as a church.
I am excited about the tradition that brought us to this day. I am equally excited about the call of God upon this church to make a difference in the contemporary world all around us. The first paves the way for the second. The second thankfully acknowledges the first. Hand in hand the future is claimed......for the glory of God!
