The Eddy Family
SPAIN
Grace Covenant
We are church planters having planted three churches here in Spain. At the present we are co-pastoring a church in Madrid with an argentine couple as pastors. We are also founders of a Non profit organization called Mosaic of hope that deals with youth and their problems in our part of the city. The two main problems our youth have are high school dropout rate and drugs and alcohol. We try and keep them in school by giving special remedial classes, training a basketball team, giving English classes and computer classes and doing a car mechanics class. We help with the alcohol problem by providing them a place to go and play, study, get out of the rain and someone to talk to.
Marie and I are also the founders of Operacion Bernabe. A retreat for Spanish pastors and Latin American missionaries working in Spain. We do the retreat once a year, one year for Spanish pastors and the next year for Latin American missionaries. The retreat is like a tres dias or road to amaus. We pamper these servants, with an all expense paid weekend at a three star hotel 30 yards off the Mediterranean. During the retreat we teach on practical issues that pastors or missionaries face here in Spain. I have story after story of pastors and missionaries that were burned out and ready to leave ministry and Spain... even one pastor who had become an agnostic... who have come back to faith and back to full potential after coming to one of our retreats. It cost me $10,000 a retreat and NEVER HAS SO LITTLE GIVEN SO MUCH!
Two years ago a number of Latin American missionary couples came up to us on the retreat and asked if we could so something for their teen age sons and daughters for many of them were leaving the faith and not adjusting to life in Spain. I am a missionary kid born in cuba and raised in panama. I knew exactly what they were talking about. So last year we struck out in faith and did the first (Im told the first in the world) camp for Latin American "third culture kids". Again, I could tell you of the fellow who came and belonged to one of the violent latin gangs, who after two days took the gang clothes off and radically changed. We saw God work in wonderful ways that week with the dear kids. One father wrote me an email and asked "what have you done to my son?... He is totally changed!
About ourselves
I, as I said, am a miss kid. I graduated from Asbury college wanting to be a doctor, ended up flying planes and planning to go with Wycliff bible translators and right before going to Columbia, God shut the door and brought me to church plant in Spain.
My wife is a graduate of the Complutense University in Spain. She is from the south of Spain, Jaen province. and is a trained elementary teacher. I will include our two last prayer letters one on the CTC camp and one of the ministry Marie has been doing for the last months.
Stephy is 14 and loves volleyball. She is a rabid reader and a friend to her friends. All our girls were born in Spain, have dual nationality and speak English and Spanish. All three go to Spanish schools.
Mar is 12 and love basketball. She is a dedicated student and cant decide if she wants to be a doctor or a nurse.
Rachael is 7 and is our socialite. She is a good swimmer but loves people and can talk to a wall... it WILL answer back. She has the attention span of a fly!
Favorite things:
- Bill- motorcycles and planes, plus anything with a motor AND my 4 girls!
- Marie- clothes, clothes, clothes and shopping!
- Stephy- chatting on-line, tenis shoes, friends and getting her scooter licence.
- Mar- loves her friends, laughing, horses and clothes.
- Rachael- loves life! her sister mar, her sister stephy (in that order I think) and watching TV.
PRAYER CONCERNS
- We are in the process of organizing our CTC (Latin American Missinary Kid camp) for July. Pray that the kids that need to be at that camp will come... in other words that the Devil does not have power to keep them away.
- We are also in the process of opening up another area of work with troubled youth in this part of the city. We need wisdom as we make decision whether to commit to this or wait another year.
- Family wise the girls start final exams for this years school work. In the Spanish school system the final is THE GRADE that determines whether you pass or not.
