PARAGUAY
The Mission Society

John, Colleen and their three children have served as missionaries in Africa and South America since 1990. In Paraguay they work with the local National Methodist Youth Commission which organizes camps and retreats. They also have helped implement agricultural development programs for pastors in rural areas, taught in the Methodist Bible Institute, and developed a carpentry program for the Toba Indians. If you visit Paraguay, you will find them assisting the short-term teams with transportation and translation. John is the Field Leader for the Mission Society missionaries in Paraguay since 2000. He also helps with the National Church construction projects.

PRAYER CONCERNS
- PRAISES
- Thank you everyone for helping get into the "black"! May the Lord bless you as you have blessed us!
- Our children’s school, Asuncion Christian Academy, has an excellent, new director, Dr. Brad Hoyt. Pray for him and his wife, Cheryl. They have been under spiritual attack since they got here. Daniel graduated from high School here in June 2005 and has just finished his first year at Greenville College in IL.
- PRAYER REQUESTS
- First and Foremost, pray for the Methodist youth. They are the leaders of today in the Paraguayan Methodist Church since the Paraguayan population is 70% under the age 20. Pray as the Methodist youth divides by ages this year into 12-16 year olds called "Adolescentes" and those above 17 years called "Jovenes".
- The school where our children attend in Paraguay, Asuncion Christian Academy (ACA) needs a High School English teacher, a first grade teacher, an elemntary ESL teacher and a school nurse.
- Daniel finished his first year at Greenville College in IL and changed his major to business but still needs direction as to what type of business, he wants to pursue. Pray for him as he is so far away form us!
- Our daughter, Elizabeth , has started her Senior year so pray for her as she decides on a college and prepares to leave us also. Pray for her as she takes the ACT the last weekend of October. Her thyroid has not been functioning correctly so pray that it is healed! She is Vice- president of her class and NHS this year.
- During the month of September, Mark and Jo Waltz return to Paraguay to get the Mobile Medical Clinic running forone month. Pray that all runs smoothly and for the teams coming to help them. Pray for a full time doctor so that this can continue its work like in the years past.
- The BIG issue now for the National Methodist church is to re-write the church by-laws. All you needed to become the church President was to be a member of the Methodist Church for two years.
- On October 14th, the Methodist youth of the Central district will hold an evngelism campaign in the barrio near Santa Rosa. John met with the youth leaders to plan out the next months. They hope to hold a youth camp in mid-December. May the Lord touch hearts and reveal Himself greatly during these times. We are preparing leaders for the future of Paraguay!
- The Methodist Women will be holding their next annual gathering at the seminary on November 10-11 so pray for the planning and resources. Pray that the Lord moves mightily.
- Our daughter, Faith, is learning to play the bells and will have her first solo in late November. pray for her.
- When another missionary asked Colleen about opening her house for a Women's Bible Study in English, the start of good thing happened and has grown to around 10 women. Pray for this time to encourage missionary wives.
- The first International Methodist Men's Conference for Paraguay and four other South American countries: Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, was held on May 5-6 here in Asuncion, Paraguay. Peru and Bolivia had closed borders and could not attend. Some of the countries with older congregations were impressed by what can only be attributed to the Lord in regards to how the Paraguayan Methodist Church is growing.
- Pray for more funding for us.
- We have things we would like to do when the finances are there. For example, we would like to do more with the Guarani Indians in the rural area of Yrybucua. Also we would like to start training pastors to translate for teams so that the ministry becomes more and more Paraguay, even when teams are here. Plus, English opens doors for better jobs in Paraguay but again we need scholarships for this.
- Continue to pray for our health and safety . These cannot be taken for granted here. Pray also for our computer's health- the hard drive died earlier in Fall and we just had to have it reformated last week.
- Pray for the new members we have since the Franklin Graham. This Fall we baptized around 20 new believers in our church alone. Pray for them as they continue being discipled and pray for those who are still in the "exploration" phase.
- Pray for the home church meetings that started during Franklin Graham but continue on and continue to draw people to the Lord.
- Pray for more new missionaries here. Our Mobile Medical clinic, that normally sees thousands of people yearly, sharing Christ, prayer and medical expertise, will not be able to visit any churches or remote areas for at least 6 months since we are without a doctor and optician. We also need more pastors to mentor the new, young pastors here.
- Pray for a place for us to live while we are in the States for a year, starting in July 2007.
